The Case for Buying a fixer-upper in Santa Cruz

Homes in Santa Cruz are objectively some of the best around. The combination of easy construction conditions, good natural resources and wide open spaces with a low population figure all conspire as contributing factors to the good construction of homes within Santa Cruz and the surrounding area. However, one of the other things that are available in Santa Cruz for a buyer shopping for a new home is choice. There are a number of different choices available for the prospective buyer that is geared to suit their different needs.

The first choice is the straight up and simple choice that is readily available in every city, county and state in this country. That is the choice of seeing a housing property that you like, enquiring about the price of that property and then starting a mortgage agreement for the property if you feel that you can afford it. With a number of good brokers and financial institutions within the area, finding the perfect property and getting the ideal agreement for that perfect property is not as hard as it might be in some other areas of the United States.

However, there are some people that would reject that deal because of various reasons. The main reason for a person not to want to get a house in the simple and straightforward way mentioned in the previous paragraph is that they might genuinely not be able to afford any of the houses in the area. While prices in Santa Cruz for property are not the highest in the United States, they can certainly get up there and for some people an alternative solution is needed.

That solution is commonly known in Santa Cruz home circles as being the fixer upper solution. This is a situation in which instead of going ahead and purchasing your dream home through a traditional bank mortgage, you instead go ahead and purchase a piece of property that could eventually become your dream home in the future. This house is likely not going to be up in complete repair and there might be large areas of the house that need to be renovated, but the good news in the end is that you are going to be able to get the property for a price that is a lot cheaper than what you would end up paying for your dream home in Santa Cruz today. Many people enjoy fixer upper deals because they allow them to find a house in an area that they like and repair it one step at a time whenever their finances allow.

For other people however, even this is not going to be good enough because they do not like the idea of living in an old house that is somewhat worn out. For these people, the best way to go would be to make a purchase of a plot of land from some of the large numbers of acres available in and around the city of Santa Cruz. They can start by building a small and affordable house and as time goes by and money becomes more plentiful, they can then add on section by section to the core building they have constructed.
